Introducing the Drawio Macro in Macro Pack: A New Way to Visualize Your Ideas

At Warsaw Dynamics, we’re always looking for ways to enhance our apps to empower Confluence and Jira users. This time, we dedicated our focus to the Macro Pack app to give people a better visualization and documentation tool. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our latest addition: the Drawio Macro!

If you’re already using Macro Pack, you know how powerful it is for embedding PlantUML, Swagger, Markdown, HTML, LaTeX, Mermaid, JSON, CSV, and AsciiDoc directly in Confluence. Now, with draw.io integration, you can seamlessly add and edit diagrams, flowcharts, and system architectures without any struggle!

Why draw.io?

Diagrams are an essential part of technical documentation, project planning, and brainstorming. Draw.io (now known as diagrams.net) is a widely used, open-source diagramming tool that allows teams to create everything from simple flowcharts to complex system designs. With the new Drawio Macro, you can:

  • Embed diagrams directly in Confluence pages

  • Collaborate in real time on system architectures, workflows, and processes

  • Keep your documentation visual, structured, and up-to-date

How Does It Work?

Using the draw.io macro on your Confluence page is easy and intuitive. So once you have the Macro Pack app installed, follow the steps:

  1. Go to www.drawio.com (or now https://app.diagrams.net/ ) page

  2. Create your diagram

  3. Open the Confluence page, where you want to place the diagram

  4. Type “/drawio” to select the macro and choose:

    • “Drawio Macro for Confluence (from the page content) In the field, type “/codesnipet” and type the XML code of the diagram (you can open the file in a browser to see the code)

    • “Drawio Macro for Confluence”

      • read from URL - paste the URL with the diagram code

      • read from the attachment - provide a file with the code of the desired diagram
